About 18 months of coverage and I'm still trying to decide if it's a good deal. I pay to cover our two dogs for their routine veterinary health maintenance and for emergency/sickness care, as well as pharmacy. So far, fortunately, all our claims were for routine preventive care. I've found the reimbursement levels to be disappointing, and the claims review process a bit opaque and sometimes not satisfactory. When our 5 year-old dog went in for routine dental exam + extractions under anaesthesia, the claim was rejected on the basis that a vet had previously indicated a finding of gingivitis, which rendered all his dental care "pre-existing condition". Of course we wouldn't have scheduled dental care based on a finding of gingivitis alone, and anyway that sort of cleaning IS part of routine dental care in a normal healthy dog. So I've come to realize they skimp on reimbursement. I haven't discontinued yet because I hope that perhaps the insurance will prove itself when there are real health emergencies that are costly to address. I'm not holding my breath.

Although I appreciate the quick response, I’m not sure all of the benefits are adequately explained. For instance, our dog takes Trifecsus monthly but only one 6 months dosage was covered. What good does that do?

Disappointed with the return
After spending $230 on a a yearly exam and vaccines. I would expect to get more than $100 back. This is not the first or the second time this has happened. I very seldom use the insurance and feel you should get more money for keeping your pet healthy.

I had spot for about 2 years before my sweet senior boy just passed, and they covered every claim I submitted. When he passed and I called to cancel, they even told me that they cover end of life care (euthanasia & cremation) which I had no idea about. Truly could not recommend them highly enough.

I adopted my senior dog a year ago and got Spot shortly after. (Had been with a different company with my previous dog, and for a few years they were excellent but then the premiums started soaring, so I looked for a different company with this new dog). I am 3000 miles from home on vacation with my terrier and my dog started showing signs of an obstruction so I ended up taking him to the ER two times in two days. He’s ok but the bill was A LOT. Filing the claim took only seconds using my phone camera and a couple days later the bank informed me money had been deposited in my account by Spot. It could not have been easier and I expected to be waiting for weeks for the claim to go through, not days. The best part is feeling comfortable to tell the vet to do whatever needs to be done to keep my dog healthy and safe without having to look at a cost estimate and pick and choose which tests to do based on price— and then worry that the expensive one I skipped was the one you needed. Very happy I switched to Spot.

Great experience with Spot! I have another insurance plan for my older dog and they manage to deny everything. Spot handles claims quickly, with no hassles. They even pay for prescription food for my pup! One key things is, you've got to get signed up immediately when you get your dog, any problems they discover during the first exam will be excluded forever with Spot, or any other insurance plan.

This insurance is really quick. I never have to call for anything. Pretty straightforward. Upload your invoices and wait a few days. I have yet to receive a full 90%, but I think it varies due to the VET prices on specific procedures, which makes sense. I think they take the average of others. Ex. the rabies vaccine was $60 at my vet, they reimbursed $20. That was an average of the others (vets) around.

Spot Insurance makes it very easy to submit claims, responds quickly and keeps me updated while the claim is being processed. Spot has been very helpful in wellness suggestions for my dog and when he suffered a stroke, Spot was there again to guide and make quick payments on claims I submitted. There were weeks I feared I would lose my dog and seeing a vet up to 5 times a week can add a financial burden to a stressful time that only adds to the fear and stress. All you need to do is upload some medical records, vet notes (Spot can also request them for you, but my vet isn't the best at responding), and a brief description about your pet's condition. They have always processed my claims within a week, which I really appreciate.

I have Spot insurance for all 4 of my pets. It's one thing to have insurance, it's another to have to use it. One of my senior dogs had to have TPLO surgery on both of her knees. I had such a fear that it would not be covered, but Spot covered BOTH knees and paid out the next day! My cats have also had smaller issues and I've never had a claim get denied. I would recommend them to anyone.
