I just want to say the biggest THANK YOU to Taylor, Jake, Katie, and Hanna. There was about a year gap from when I spoke with Taylor to me reaching back out to him and I’m glad I did. The other lender I was working with was accommodating until things hit a seriously unfavorable snag at which point I reached back out to Taylor. I was simply paranoid that I wasn’t going to be able to get the new build my family and I had been working on since August 2024 since we were not going to be able to use my spouse’s income anymore. In a hail mary I just wanted to find out how much house I would qualify for with just my income and to my surprise, Taylor and the team told me that they could still close me on our custom new build. This was all less than 2 months from my scheduled closing which is now complete. I will forever sing the praises of my experiences with Veteran United and recommend Taylor Holman, Jake Tecklenburg, Katie Burkemper, and Hanna Schwartz by name.

I left the army in 2009. I wanted to purchase a home but learned that my SSN was reported deceased. After a long battle with the social security department I finally got enough proof that I was really alive. Turns out that they believe that when I was injured in Iraq in 2008 that someone reported I was KIA and my mother had even gotten a call from the Red Cross that I had died. Now that you know the back story, I had to completely rebuild my credit. Veteran United actually help guide me with its credit building teams to rebuild my credit. It did take a little over a year but I got it in range to where I would get qualified for a home loan. Eventually leading to this very moment where I am a home owner and just spent my first night at my new home! Thank you everyone who helped along the way!

We recently sold our rental property to our daughter. In the past 40 years, I bought four homes, refinanced each several times and sold one in 2015. While this was simpler as it was a transaction between family members, the requirements for the loan itself weren't any different as if it were a sale between sellers and buyers who don't know each other. I called Veterans United on behalf if my daughter on Feb 26, 2025. We worked with a mortgage broker for about a week at that time. I was driving from Texas to DC. They finally called me back with numbers I was not happy about. They wanted me to sell my 360k house for $270k, leave 20% as a gift of equity, and pay the closing costs-UNDER A VA LOAN!!! She is a 100% disabled veteran...but they still were going to add the property taxes to her payment even though she is exempt in Texas. They also only plussed-up her VA disability compensation by 15%...as I was driving I kept thinking about not liking this at all. When I stopped in Abilene, I did some research and looked for a direct lender instead of going through a broker. I remembered an ad from Veterans United. I googled and found that VU is the #1 VA-backed mortgage direct lender-of course any business can say they are #1. VU wasn't saying this, it was their clients! It was already 6:30pm my time. I figured I would leave a message and someone would get back to me sometime...not so! I was able to speak to Shelby, who started the process, set up an account for my daughter on their web portal, gave me our loan officers name, and connected me with concierge services. We had no need as my daughter had already moved in to the house. Initially she was going to rent it. To top it off, Corey called 20 min later. I gave him the info he needed to do a preliminary credit check, run some numbers, etc. He did not count real estate taxes towards the house payment because of her disabled veteran status. VU plussed-up her disability pay by 25% and allowed a higher debt-to-income ratio. He also issued a preliminary qualifications letter in the amount of $350k and set a closing date of Mar 31st. As far as documentation, she had to provide very little: her VA disability letter, proof of identity... most of anything else, like explanations, were able to be filled out on the portal. No cumbersome printing stuff out (unless it required a wet signature), signing, scannin/emailing/mailing. Corey emailed a welcome letter with a sample for sale by owner contract, & introduced us to Matt. I printed it out at Office Depot in the morning, signed, scanned, & emailed it to my husband. He did the same and emailed it to my daughter. She executed it on Friday morning and uploaded it to the portal. We made an appointment for the VA termite inspection for Mon, appraisal for Mar 13th. Underwriting approved everything during the 1st week of Mar. Termite inspection and appraisal came back clean. We could have closed around the 20th, but decided to just stick with the 31st. Good thing, because we did pay off two of her credit cards that were maxed out the next day after she applied for the mortgage, her credit score increased significantly and she was able to get a lower rate. I still paid all the closing costs and she paid $350k for the house that appraised for $360k. I had no issue selling the house to my daughter at a lower cost/giving her a gift of equity, but it was the principle: as a 100% disabled veteran with zero bills, she should have been able to qualify for a high-enough mortgage to afford something nice without a downpayment. This was by far the best homebuying/selling transaction ever. Obviously, it helped a lot that I am a 30+yr 100% disable veteran as well, & no stranger to the mortgage process...but Veterans United made the difference. Very Veteran-friendly, transparent, easy to work with, responded quickly to any questions/issues. Unless your situation is such that VU can't help you, you can see by our example that this was the much better way to go. I also like that they service their mortgages.

I would buy a home every month just to go through the buying process working with this Team.
